What is it?
Vietnam has been known worldwide for its high quality coffee; but nothing compares to its most iconic version that’s really famous in the country’s capital, Hanoi; the Egg Coffee.
Vietnamese Egg Coffee (Cà Phê Trứng)
It sounds fairly strange for putting eggs in coffee, right? But the taste is definitely worth a try for at least once in your lifetime. Egg yolk whisked with condensed milk to form a frosty foam layer on top of the pure black coffee. The resulting taste is mildly sweet and rich that can easily please the taste buds of many people.
How do you make it?
First of all, take about 3 teaspoons of Vietnamese coffee powder and use a metallic filter cup to brew the coffee (you can find this filter tool in some Asian supermarket, it might be hard to find one, but definitely worth the effort).
In the meantime, crack an egg and separate the yolk, discard the egg white. In a bowl, whisk only the egg yolk with passion. Next step is to add in 2 teaspoons of sweetened condensed milk and whisk vigorously again until the mixture becomes fluffy.
Choose a clear lovely cup for a beautiful presentation. Pour in your brewed coffee, then the frothy egg mixture on top and for the final touch, sprinkle some mocha powder on top. Place the cup into a shallow bowl containing hot water and serve it. Make sure you mix the 2 layers together before drinking and tasting it. Enjoy!
